1841 - he was living in Habrough, with his parents George and Mary, and brothers John, Thomas, Joseph, George and James. 1851 - he was an apprentice tailor living at the house of John ROBINSON, publican and master tailor (to whom he may have been related) at Habrough, Lincolnshire. 1861 - ? 1871 - ? 1881 - he was a master tailer employing 1 man, married and living withhis wife Lucy Amy and living at Town End, Stallingborough, Lincolnshire. At that time they had four sons, George John, Henry James, William Edward, and David Horley, and two daughters, Mary Elizabeth, and Lucy Matilda. 1891 - he was a master tailor and had moved to 5 George Street, Grimsby, and was now a widower, and George John and Henry James have left home, but the others were still there. 1901 - he was a widower and a tailor with his own business working at home at 5 George Street, Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Living with him were hissons William Edward and David Morley, and daughter Lucy Matilda.
