Robert was from Sawcliffe which is between Scunthorpe and Roxby he must have come from a wealthy background as his memorial is in Roxby church and was made by the sculptor called Earl he was from Hull. My cousin has told me that the Holgates were wealthy land owners in many places they were possibly yeoman farmers Robert must have been a gentleman farmer as he had ESQ after his name.
