Matthew Walton VENABLE
Matthew Walton Venable, civil engineer, b. at "Scott-Greene," Prince Edward Co., Va., Apr. 8, 1847; studied at Hampden-Sidney Academy and College until 1864 when he joined C. S. A., Co. H., 1st Reg. of Engineers; studied at the University of Virginia after the war; in 1868, he went to West Virginia as a civil and mining engineer; now (1924), he is Pres. of the Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of West Va.; Director, Glade Creek Coal and Lumber Co. He married (I) Sept. 7, 1870, Maria Dyer of Cabell Co., West Va., who d. Nov. 1891. He mar. (II) June 21, 1893, Anne Haymond Byrne (a first cousin of his first wife). |
