bullet  General Notes:

Esther and Harry divorced Oct 1936.

Before marriage, Esther was a school teacher in Attica, Iowa. Lucille
Miers Webster had a telecon with Fonda Laird on September 21, 1999, in
which Fonda said that Esther Miers was her teacher one year then Esther
married and was her teacher again. These were Fonda's 3rd and 4th grades
in school. Fonda was the granddaughter of B.N.S. Etcher. B.N.S. was
Amanda Etcher Smith's brother. Amanda was Lulu Smith Miers' mother.
B.N.S. and his first wife Elizabeth had a daughter Jenny. Jenny's mother
died so B.N.S.'s sister Osta Etcher Davidson raised Jenny. Jenny married
Dennis Robuck. They had children including Fonda Robuck Laird.

Esther had no children. Lucille Miers Webster got to stay with her in
Des Moines, Iowa, for a week during World War II while Mutt was away in
the war. Esther bought Lucille some nice black patent leather shoes.
She also bought Lucille her first "Coney Island", which was a hot dog in
a bun with chilli on the top. When the daily pie man came around the
neighbohood with a cart selling individual sized pies, Lucille was bought
one of those, too. When they were dating and living in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, Lucille and her later-to-be husband stayed with Esther and Mutt to
attend the Iowa State Fair. Lucille has fond memories of her Aunt Esther.

Marland worked for Bell Telephone Co. in Des Moines, Iowa, where he and
Esther lived.

Esther and Marland are both buried in Knoxville, Graceland Cemetery,
Marion Co., Iowa, Section 9 (North part of old cemetery), Lot 2.
Marland's veterans marker by his grave says "World War II 1941-45, IA PFC
Army Air Force"
