Agnes WOODSON
(1748-) |
Agnes WOODSON
Other names for Agnes were Mrs. Agnes WATKINS and Mrs. Francis WATKINS. User ID: P00051833. General Notes: As described by Alice (Read) Rouse, about the Michaux women. "A faithful sketch of the life and character of Mrs Agnes Woodson might be profitable and interesting, especially to her descendents. She was a remarkable woman in many respects, and of undoubted genius. This narrative could be extended, with appropriate ancedotes far beyond the limits that I give myself. It is told by the old people of the day about her original calico prints, of her silk manufactures, of the loom made by her directions, and of her home-made 'gamut', for teaching her daughters the elementery priciples of music. She too, was firm and bold in her action and originality of thought. Once a deserter from Moores Ordinary Force, in uniform, whom she thought was a British soldier, tried to freighten her, he was seen running alone trying to escape the fire of her rifle, of which she was practiced and skillful. Agnes married Francis WATKINS on 11 Jun 1765. (Francis WATKINS was buried in Prince Edward, Virginia, USA, "Poplar Hill Cemetery".) |
