Fred and Elizabeth must have died when the girls were still young, as the children were brought up by Hunt relatives. Barbara was sent to Hursley in Hampshire to Henrietta Hunt who was married to Herbert John Beacock. Isobel stayed in Normanby with Isabella Cripps (Lizzie's sister) who ran the Normanby post office.
