VICTIM OF FATAL ACCIDENT NAMED

THE 16-year-old victim of one of two car crashes which occurred on the region's roads was named today.

Sam Wilkinson, of Sowers Lane in Winterton, suffered fatal injuries when the Porsche Boxster in which he was travelling was in collision with a Land Rover Discovery on the A18 Gunness Straight, which occurred at about 7.20pm on Sunday, near the roundabout to the M181.

The crash also left the Porsche's driver, a 39-year-old Ashby man, with life-threatening injuries.

He was yesterday in Scunthorpe General Hospital where his condition was described as 'critical'.

The Land Rover driver, a Keadby man, suffered slight injuries as result of the accident.

The crash was one of two fatal accidents on Sunday.

WITNESSES SOUGHT TO ACCIDENT

POLICE investigating the death of a 16-year-old Winterton boy in a car smash are appealing for witnesses.

Sam Wilkinson, of Sowers Lane, died on Sunday when the blue Porsche Boxster in which he was a passenger collided with a Land Rover Discovery on Gunness Straight at about 7.20pm.

Investigating officer Pc Kevin Prestwood said: "It is extremely important anybody who saw the car at any time prior to the collision gets in touch with us as soon as possible, because we do need witnesses."

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old man from Ashby, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital. He was this morning in a critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary.

WITNESSES SOUGHT

OFFICERS investigating the fatal road accident on the A18 on April 28 are appealing again for witnesses.

A 17-year-old man died after the Porsche in which he was a passenger was involved in a collision with a Land Rover, near the Frodingham Grange roundabout.

Police would like to hear from the driver of a Ford Cabriolet who stopped at the scene and tended to the injured in the field.

They would also like to speak to a female seen near the Cabriolet who, it is thought, may have been the passenger in that car.

The vehicle left the scene before police arrived, and the occupants did not leave their details.

They are urged to contact Scunthorpe Police on (01724) 274200.

The 39-year-old driver of the Porsche Boxster remains at Leeds General Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
