Her husband, Mr. Fitzgerald, a lawyer by profession, was lieutenant- colonel 23d Virginia Regiment, C. S. A.; served in northwest Virginia, then under Jackson, in the Valley; wounded at Sharpsburg; captured at Spottsylvania; selected out of Fort Delaware as one of fifty field-officers to be sent to Charleston, S. C., to be placed under fire of Confederate batteries; was there exchanged, served to close of war, and surrendered at Appomattox Court House; is now a lawyer of Farmville, Va. They have no children. Frances married John P. FITZGERALD on 24 Dec 1863. |
